Centre Hospitalier Ettelbruck - De Park

Landscape redevelopment and revitalisation at the psychiatric hospital

The park is being redesigned in the course of a comprehensive redevelopment project comprising additions on northern periphery of the hospital complex.
The centre of the park is to keep its spacious and open appearance. Valuable trees will be maintained and complemented with new areas of characteristic planting; existing vegetation that has become overgrown will be thinned out.

Curving hedges both mark, integrate and border various activity areas, such as basketball courts, table tennis, cycle tracks, benches with leg exercising equipment and communal gardens. The hedges become denser in the west where they serve as buffers between the through road and the buildings.
The vegetation strengthens the therapeutic concept by using specific colour schemes to help orientation, by planting fruit trees and scented plants.

For the purpose of sustainability and in accordance with the environmental authority’s strict guidelines, all stormwater is retained in a system of infiltration basins and subsequently fed into the nearby Alzette River. Soakaways are not possible due to the geology on the site.
