1st prize for a new sports arena at Olympiapark München

Feb. 14, 2019

On 14 February, the state capital Munich, FC Bayern Basketball, SAP and Red Bull presented the winning design for a new multifunctional sports arena on the site of the former Olympic velodrome in Munich’s Olympic park: In cooperation with 3XN from Copenhagen, LATZ+PARTNER were awarded the contract to build a future venue for Red Bull Munich, the German ice hockey champion, and FC Bayern München, the German basketball champion, with a capacity of up to 11,500 spectators.

Christine Strobl, Mayor of the City of Munich: “The sports facilities in the core area of Olympiapark, all of which are part of an extraordinary ensemble, required careful planning of the new sports arena. The design by 3XN architects and the landscape architects totally convinced the competition jury. The new hall will blend into the landscape, and its facade and green roof will add elegant highlights within the park “.

Red Bull Stadion München GmbH had launched the competition in 2018 in coordination with the City of Munich and with international participation. Depending on the progress of the planning approval process, the laying of the first stone is planned for next winter. The opening of the new sports arena is anticipated in late summer 2021.
