First prize in the design competition for a new town hall at the S-Bahn station in Bergisch Gladbach, in cooperation with Auer Weber Assoziierte
The city of Bergisch Gladbach intends to accommodate parts of its administration and the municipal library in a new building at the terminus of Bergisch Gladbach S-Bahn station.
Six schemes had been selected by the jury in December 2018 from a total of twelve competition entries. While urban design was the main focus in the first phase, the jury subsequently evaluated the schemes from an architectural and functional point of view.
The jury was convinced by the two appropriately scaled, yet dissimilar building volumes set within a persuasive open space concept: The staggered buildings define a square at the main entrance to the new town hall, which makes an attractive entrance to the city’s pedestrian zone.
The competition entries are shown until Thursday, 2 May at Kunstmuseum Villa Zanders, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 8, Bergisch Gladbach.
