A Japanese-inspired garden in Rottach-Egern, Tegernsee, Bavaria

Like the Grand Tour which inspired generations of Europeans, the owners were deeply influenced by a field trip to the Far East. Back in Tegernsee, they asked the office to rearrange their garden.

Inside the garden, signs of the Bavarian Alps are associated with some Eastern philosophy principles like the gravel surfaces, fountains and rock pathways. The outer garden is designed with viewpoints while the inner garden is filled with decorative pieces brought from Japan.

Carved gargoyles protect the house from evil spirits while a Zen Garden with a white magnolia tree act as the meditative centrepiece.
