Latz + Partner won second prize in the competition for the realisation of urban streets and squares in Weststadt Esslingen.
The distinguishing feature of the proposal is the various spatial characters along the linear Fleischmannstrasse road space. The open neighbourhood square provides a pleasant contrast to the narrow and dense Weststadt; it offers a versatile space that can be used in all kinds of ways. The local gardens are a pleasantly tranquil spot in the district. The railway tracks and turntables have been retained and integrated into the design as important historic elements that lend character.
