First prize - Thierschbrücke Lindau
July 31, 2015
The replacement construction of the Thiersch Bridge and the adjacent open spaces on the island of Lindau is one of the first steps on the citys comprehensive agenda in realizing the Two station concept , improving the network for pedestrians and cyclists and implementing a Ring of Gardens around the island.
Latz + Partner collaborating with Ney + Partners were awarded the first price in the design competition for the realization of the project: The new bridge spans between the abutments embedded into the historic redoubts in an elegant arc, its structural efficiency reflected in a reduced design language. Arriving on the Stern redoubt, the bridge formulates a view point upon the lake and establishes the place as an attractive garden space with a direct link to the shoreline promenade.
