Design for Große Straße between Blumenwisch and Lugenstein

Verden’s old town is one of a few historic centres that were spared destruction by the war or economic development.
The historic facades along Große Straße will be enhanced with colour-matched, barrier-free surfaces. The density of strips of stone paving reflects the users’ ‘axes of movement’ as well as the small scale of the buildings. Technical equipment allows large events such as the ‘Domweih’, northern Germany’s oldest fair, to be held there. Blocks of stone assembled into a platform provide a clear reference point within the space which serves as a meeting place for locals, providing a seating area and a stage.
