Urban Transformations
A lot has been accomplished in recent decades. Ecological standards, rainwater treatment, roof gardens or greened buildings no longer represent proving grounds; we have accepted our role in the renewal of industrial brownfield sites. What remains to be developed are methods that are more precise and an appropriate language that is between preservation and change. This provides new areas of research besides the neglected old ones, such as how to handle plants. Research should be on the following questions: how can surplus urban areas be re-integrated into the urban fabric? How can threatening change be seen as an opportunity? And how can we deal with the detestable subject of roads otherwise than with emotional rejection?
